Sitting on the deck at 5:47 PM the sun is still above the trees in the garden, and the shade they will eventually provide is still some time away. The bay is a pure white reflection of light - I can barely steal a glance at it with my sunglasses on without being momentarily blinded. The vegetation line across the bay is a black belt, separating the shimmering water and the lazy low clouds just above it in the pale blue sky.
The wind is moving nicely from the north east - it is dry, and even though the sun on my body is warm the late afternoon is incredibly pleasant and comfortable.
I try to focus on boats and small craft in black silhouette as they head south in the bay, but as they cross under the direct line of the sun’s reflection it is nearly impossible.
